We are a boutique advisory and investment firm focused on providing strategic, financial, operational and transactional advice to telecommunications, energy and technology companies and their investors. Our name reflects that utilities and telecom were among the original technology and critical infrastructure industries.
Telecommunications and Utilities
We are focused in part on the development of mobile broadband networks by telecommunications carriers and electric utilities. Why? Mobile data traffic worldwide grew 70% in 2016 and is expected to grow 50% annually through 2022. Increased data usage promotes network development, and better networks promote data heavy applications. As a result, networks must be developed to handle use cases with different demands on mobility, data rates, latency, reliability and device density. Demands, including for utilities, will exist for flexible and agile broadband networks, involving the cloud, network slicing, carrier aggregation and the like. These and similar issues challenge technical, business, financial and regulatory paradigms. Thus, there is a shortage of perspective on how these paradigms are changing and the opportunities presented by these changes.
Technology Companies
We have decades of business, legal, economic, technical, engineering, regulatory and transactional experience, and have assisted businesses as they have navigated developmental obstacles of all kinds. Some of us helped develop the laws and regulations that enabled the Internet. Others legislated and regulated that development. Others still have engineered and helped build businesses based upon that development. Today that focus has shifted more often toward software and Internet of Things (IoT) and their implication on, among other things, transportation and logistics.
Energy/Renewables
With our deep insight into legislative and regulatory matters, we advise on transactions and business developments related to energy concerns, particularly in the renewables sector.
